Mac Instructions

If you experiencing problems with viewing the Sailing Race Viewer this checklist should help to sort them out. Please follow the instructions to install and configure the Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE) on your Mac OS. The Java Runtime Enviroment is no longer installed automatically as part of the OS installation. Additionally the ways to install and configure Java may differ among the versions of Mac OS.

Step 1

You can use the following method to initiate the Java runtime installation or confirm it is currently installed. Go to Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences. Then open the Java Preferences.

If Java is not installed, you receive the following message:

“To open “Java Preferences," you need a Java runtime. Would you like to install one now?”

Click Install and accept the license agreement. The Java runtime is downloaded and installed.

If the Java Runtime is already installed you can proceed with step 2.

Step 2

Even though Java 6 is installed, it needs to be activated by yourself. To do this, you need to run the Java Preferences and tick the Java SE 6 checkboxes.

If you have more than one Java Runtime Enviroments installed you need to change the order of Java versions. Once Java SE 6 or higher is on top of the list, it should be activated.

Depending on the version of your operating system it could also be nesseccary to tick the Enalbe applet plug-in and Web Start applications checkbox.

Step 3

The last step is to ensure that Java is enabled in your browser. For Safari 6.0 you got to Go to Applications > Safari. After Safari is started you go to Safari > Preferences > Security. Ensure that the checkboy Enable Java and Enable JavaScript is checked.

Additional information

The Sailing Race Viewer is dependent on the Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE) to work. Apple recently changed the way it includes Java in Mac OS, and with Lion, Java is no longer preinstalled. It is now an optional install that you must select.
